The Dog Days of August

It’s been a while since we last posted, but things are absolutely wonderful with Sofi. We’ve really been enjoying our time together, getting to know each other, and just having a blast!

After her last grooming I thought she looked so cute, but I did think her ears were a bit long. So we went back to the groomers for a bit of a trim, and now she looks absolutely perfect, don’t you think? The groomers were so great and took her right in and didn’t charge me a thing for the extra trim.  I love this cut on Sofi.  Some people thought her coat was too short, but believe me, it’s already growing in.  By getting the shorter cut, it makes the grooming last longer, which is a great thing.  As we move into fall, I’ll go from 1/2 inch on the body to 3/4.

Sofi’s been with me exactly 2 months now, and we’ve definitely developed a great daily routine.  We wake up, go potty, eat breakfast, play, go get Minnie, plya more, and then nap and play intermittently all day. (Sofi, that is. I’m usually doing something around the house, out enjoying the summer weather, or “playing” online).

Of course, right when we’ve established a routine, it’s time to shake things up a bit with school starting soon.  The plan is for Sofi to spend her days dozing and playing in her puppy safe area while I’m at school.  She loves being in there, and Heather assured me that most of the time dogs sleep during the day, so there would be absolutely no problem with Sofi staying in there the entire day.  Whew, that’s a relief. Once I get home from school, which will be at about 3:30 most days, I’m going to let Sofi out of her pen and let her run around, play with Minnie, and just stretch her legs a bit.  Then we’ll go for a walk around the neighborhood and continue on with our afternoon and evening routines.  It should be fairly seamless.

There are some exciting things coming up the next two weeks for Sofi:

  • Saturday Lori and I are taking the girls and the pooches and going to a Carmel Beach Picnic that Society Dog is having in Carmel, CA.  I haven’t been to Carmel in years, so I’m really looking forward to it.  It’s so pretty there, and apparently it’s one of the top dog-friendly towns in the U.S.  Who knew?  Plus, it’s supposed to be really hot this weekend, so going near the coast will be nice.  It will be Sofi’s first time at the beach/near the ocean, and I can’t wait to see what her reaction is.
  • Sofi gets spayed on Monday, August 15th.  It will put her out of commission for 3-4 days, but the part that’s going to be really hard for her is that she can’t really play with Minnie for about two weeks.  Poor thing.  But overall, this is great, because even though Sofi is cuter than cute, I definitely don’t want any pregnancies around here.
  • On August 28th, Sofi and I will have our first Puppy Kindergarten class!  I can’t wait.  Sofi is really smart and picks things up quickly.  I’ve already taught her SIT and STAY, but it will be great to work on COME/HERE and more loose leash walking.  The training is on Sunday mornings from 9am-10am, so it will be a great way to star the day.  I’m thinking that we may hit the dog park afterward, as a reward.  The training classes have a social time built in, so Sofi should get more and more used to being around other dogs besides Minnie.

Lots of events coming up, each of which will have their own blog post, so you can be assured that this momentary blog silence won’t last too long.  Sofi and I hope you’ve been enjoying your summers, and we’ll check again very soon.
