A Dog with a Blog?!

A dog with a blog?  Isn’t that a little over the top, even for me?  Well, in an effort to keep my friends and family from cringing every time they see another email with news and photos about Sofi, I figured I’d start a blog that they could come to whenever they’d like.  That way, they can share in all the joy of Sofi’s life and adventures without getting inundated by me.

The title came to be because of the obvious play on words (tail/tale – get it?) . You see,  Sofi actually has a tail; my previous puppy had her tail bobbed by the breeder.  I missed out on the true joy of a puppy’s wagging tail, and I’m definitely looking forward to that with Sofi.  As for the tale – I know that Sofi and I are going to experience tons of amazing adventures together, and I can’t wait to write about each and every one.

Sofi hasn’t even arrived yet, but I’m already so excited to meet her.  She’s 10 weeks old, and is currently living with her LillyBits family.  I can’t explain just how thankful I am that I found Heather and her family as the breeders of my new puppy.  Sofi is getting the absolute best start in life, and I feel so lucky that I’ll benefit from all of that nurturing and love.

Sofi is a Shichon – a combination of a Bichon Frise and a Shih Tzu.  They’re known as teddy bear dogs, and the reason I decided on that breed is because of my first puppy, Lulu.

No tale of puppies can be complete without a word or two about Lulu.  Lulu was the canine love of my life.  Actually, if I’m honest, I loved Lulu a lot more than I loved some people.  🙂  She was my first puppy as an adult, and I couldn’t wait to get her.  I brought her home in June 2010 when she was 4 months old.  Lulu was a yorkie and bichon mix, and the most adorable thing I’d ever seen.  She was feisty, fun, and oh so lovable.  She taught me to value the simple things in life and to live in the moment.  To appreciate the way the leaves on the tree blow in the wind or the feel of her licking my face out of pure and unadulterated love.  Lulu had me wrapped around her paw and she got away with murder (including an incident with the corner of my couch, but we won’t get into that), but I loved every single minute of it.  She and I were inseparable,  and if you ask any of my friends and family, they’d tell you just how spoiled Lulu was.  Unfortunately, Lulu was hit and killed by a car in March of 2011 when she was only 13 months old.  I am thankful for the time I was able to spend with Lulu, but I was completely devastated by her death.  Lulu’s time with me was short, but she made a huge impression on my heart and in my life.  Because of Lulu I realized that I am a person who cannot be without a dog.  I’m a dog person through and through, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I truly believe that Lulu brought Sofi to me.  Sofi was born just 3 days after Lulu’s death, and I like to think that Lulu had a paw in selecting Sofi for me.  Everyone used to tell me that Lulu looked like a little stuffed teddy bear, so when I started to look for a new puppy, I went to Google, typed in “teddy bear dogs” and found the link to LillyBits.  If that isn’t fate, I don’t know what is. Sofi will definitely benefit from all that Lulu taught me.

While no dog  could ever replace Lulu in my heart, I know that I’m going to love Sofi just as much as I did Lulu.  I am thrilled that I’m going to have a new puppy in the house, and I am anxious for her to get here!! June 11th can’t come soon enough!!

So, welcome to Sofi’s Tail.  I hope you come back often to check in on her progress.
